How/when did you get involved in CrossFit?
It was 7 years ago when my personal trainer transferred and told me about a box where he trained. I checked it out and like most I became hooked.
Do you remember your first workout? How was it?
It was a humid spring Saturday free class. Us newbs had to do:
40 air squats
30 sit ups
20 push ups
10 pull ups.
Doesn’t look horrible right? Well doing this WOD as fast as I could floored me…literally.
Driving home I had the worst case of “The Crossfit Cough”. Remember if it looks easy on paper, IT IS NOT.
How have you grown in that time — health, body, mind, etc.?
While my “motor” is far from efficient I enjoy being strong. Gives me a certain amount of confidence. After all like they say “Strong people are harder to kill and are more useful in general.”
Favorite lift and WOD?
Cleans / Clean & Jerks
I like picking up heavy things and putting them back down.
What about your least favorite?
I’m sure you all have heard me complain anytime there is a run. Have to say not a fan of running.
Oh, pistols. Maybe because I can never master those damn things but they are on my sh!t list too.
What are your fitness/health goals?
I have absolutely fallen off my diet. So just finding a new balance with my love of Doritos and Whiskey with cleaner eating is definitely a goal of mine.
Is there a specific diet or nutritional habit that helps you with your goals?
First I need to set a nutritional goal. I know I can do it because I have done it before. Lifters talk about their bulking up season. My season has lasted a couple years now and time for a change.
What motivates you?
When I took an extended time off from working out altogether I felt weak. Hated that feeling so staying physically strong is important to me.
Do you have any advice for new members?
It’s going to be intimidating. The WODs will suck. You will suffer the same as everyone else. You will be glad you did it afterwards.
YOU WILL BE BACK.
Also Crossfit works. You put in the work I guarantee you will see a better you in some fashion.
What do you hope to achieve in the coming year?
Cleaning up the diet really is my one real priority for more than one reason. Got to put in that work I just talked about.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I could probably add a lot more but I have taken up enough of your time already. So I will just leave you with See you around the box for another ass beating.
